Indigenous Environmental Network One-Day Intensive Workshop

Indigenous Just Transition: How to Build a Regenerative Future

Since occupation and colonization of the Indigenous lands and territories of North America (Turtle Island), American Indian and Alaska Natives in the United States and First Nations and Aboriginal Peoples in Canada have been fighting for our now internationally recognized inherent rights to our lands, our rights for self-determination and sovereignty.

Prophecies here in Turtle Island tell of a time when our Indigenous Peoples will rise up, like coming out of a haze, a dark mist, waking up into the Light of Understanding of who we really are and our true place in the universe. This will be a time of transformation and transition. It is told by many of these prophecies that our young generation will be stepping up, learning from the experiences and wisdom of the previous generations. It is a time of language, cultural and spiritual revitalization. New ways and old ways will be coming together in harmony.

After many years of re-emergence, learning, and practice, we are creating new worlds, community developments, and economies based on our spiritual responsibilities to our lands and each other – an Indigenous values-based Just Transition.

Join us in this workshop as we discuss and engage in Indigenous values- based strategies for Just Transition!  We will explore:

  • An in depth discussion of the Indigenous Principles of Just Transition.
  • Stories of implementing a Just Transition from the perspectives of Indigenous Peoples from Frontline communities.
  • Strategies to build thriving Indigenous communities through community-initiated and directed training, technical support and comprehensive development services, creating model culturally expressive and spiritually responsible Indigenous infrastructure development.
  • The development of a groundbreaking, non-extractive Indigenous regenerative community loan fund to provide financial resources, innovative financing models and technical support to help build model Indigenous values-based communities and economies.

Together we will take action and address the root causes of climate change by changing the system – beginning at the heart, within ourselves and our local communities!
